The Prime Minister's Early Career Research Grant (PM ECRG) aims to support early career researchers in producing high-quality research that will contribute significantly to India’s scientific and technological progress. ANRF provides a flexible and enabling environment to empower these researchers.
Grant Details:
- Amount: Up to INR 60 Lakhs for 3 years
- Flexibility: Recurring head, manpower recruitment, travel, contingency, overheads, open access publications, and patent filing
- International Travel: Permitted for project-related activities
- Max. Grants per Year: 700 across all subject areas
Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Indian citizens, PIO/OCI in collaboration with an Indian Co-PI.
- Degree: Must hold a PhD, MD/MS/MDS/MVSc in Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
- Position: Must hold a regular academic/research position in a recognized institution or national lab.
- Experience: Eligible within 2 years of joining the institution.
- Age: Maximum of 42 years (relaxable by 3 years for SC/ST/OBC/Physically challenged and women).
- Contractual Faculty: Excludes Research Associates, Postdoctoral Fellows, Ad-hoc Faculties, Consultants, etc.
- Previous Grants: Not eligible if they have received YSS, ECR, SRG, CRG, or other grants from SERB/ANRF.
One-time Relaxation:
- Age limit calculated as Feb 1, 2024 instead of the date of submission.
- Must have joined the institution on or after Feb 1, 2022.

- Proposal: Submit details including project title, summary, objectives, expected outcomes, and budget.

- Endorsement Letter from the Head of Institution
- Age Proof Certificate
- Category Certificate
- Plagiarism Undertaking
Other Conditions
- One proposal per applicant per call.
- No project extension under PM ECRG.
- Selection Process: Based on Expert Committee recommendations.
