About the Proposal:

Project Title: Strengthening participation of Persons with Disabilities in the workplace

Context:

  • According to the National Census 2011, India has 2.68 crore Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), constituting 2.21% of the total population.
  • PwDs face adverse socioeconomic outcomes, including educational barriers, lack of healthcare, higher poverty rates, and employment challenges.
  • Only 10% of Nifty 50 companies report having more than 1% PwDs on their rolls, highlighting the lack of an enabling environment and infrastructure for PwDs in the corporate sector.

Objective:

  • To deepen engagement with the private sector in India for creating an enabling work environment for PwDs, enhancing their employment and participation in the workforce.
  • To align India's economic growth with active private sector participation in creating an inclusive and equitable work ecosystem for PwDs.

Description of Required Services:

Purpose:

  • Engage and dialogue with the private sector (especially SMEs and industry associations) to create enabling work environments for PwDs through modules and workshops.

Objectives:

  1. Advance UNDP's "Leave No One Behind" agenda by enhancing PwDs' participation and outcomes in the private sector.
  2. Deepen understanding of PwD rights and create enabling work environments for PwDs by businesses.
  3. Identify and address specific challenges faced by PwDs in business activities, proposing concrete actions for business adoption.

Expected Outputs:

  1. Development of Training Modules
  2. Workshop Delivery:
    • Organization and execution of at least 4 in-person workshops (2 in tier 1 cities and 2 in tier 2 cities) for business representatives, each with at least 25 participants.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • An inception report outlining the implementation plan, training module areas, stakeholder mapping, and business outreach plan.
    • A comprehensive training module on disability inclusion for the private sector.
    • A final report summarizing workshop learnings and pre/post-assessment questionnaires.

Eligibility:

  • At least 5 years of experience working on disability rights with a deep understanding of the disability rights ecosystem in India.
  • Proven track record of designing, implementing, and managing workshops and training programs on DEI policies and accessibility requirements.
  • Successful execution of at least 5 assignments related to inclusive employment practices and accessibility requirements for government, public sector, private sector, or industry bodies.
