About the Organization

ICLEI is a global association of more than 2,500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. ICLEI South Asia works on programs focusing on climate change and urban sustainability across South Asia.

Project Background

ICLEI South Asia, with C40 Cities, is implementing the project Mainstreaming Climate Action in Three Cities of Andhra Pradesh to support city governments in Vijayawada, Kakinada, and Visakhapatnam. The project seeks to develop city-wide multi-sectoral climate action plans, especially in energy-efficient building practices.

Proposal Purpose

To develop a technical guideline for heat-resilient and sustainably cooled buildings in Vijayawada, considering the local climatic conditions, to reduce energy demand and promote sustainable practices. Municipal buildings have been identified for baseline energy consumption assessments and interventions.

Scope of Work and Objectives

  1. Develop Technical Guidelines

    • Focus on active and passive measures for low-carbon space cooling technologies.
    • Recommendations for building envelope design, including:
      • Use of eco-friendly, bio-degradable materials.
      • Energy-efficient equipment and retrofitting measures.
      • Prioritize thermal comfort and urban heat island mitigation.
  2. Target Buildings for Study

    • Up to six buildings, including schools, hospitals, and social housing.
    • Walk-through visits to identify space cooling practices and improvement opportunities.
  3. Energy-Efficient Solutions

    • Identify decentralized renewable energy solutions like rooftop solar PV.
    • Consider clean energy supply for large buildings.
  4. Evaluation Study for One School Building

    • Conduct an energy baseline study and simulation for thermal performance.
    • Suggest retrofit measures and pre-feasibility for rooftop solar PV installation.

Deliverables

  • Task 1: Study and Technical Guideline Report with active/passive strategies and building envelope retrofitting.
  • Task 2: Final report on technical evaluation of one institutional building.

Eligibility

  1. Technical Requirements

    • 10+ years of experience in low-carbon buildings and sustainable cooling.
    • 5+ energy audits in municipal buildings and green building projects.
    • Experience working with government institutions in Andhra Pradesh.
  2. Education Requirements
