About the Proposal
The Learn to Discern India (L2D-India II) project aims to enhance digital media literacy skills among Indian youth, university students, media creators, and social media influencers. The project promotes healthier, more resilient information engagement by fostering critical thinking and media literacy. The initiative leverages master trainers to run awareness campaigns and empower informed, resilient consumers of information.
Proposal Objectives
- Training Master Trainers: IREX seeks master trainers for New Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, or Mumbai to facilitate media literacy sessions and conduct in-person training of trainers (ToT).
- Online and In-person Training: Trainers will be prepared through online sessions in February and March, followed by in-person ToT in late March 2025.
- Trainer Support: Trainers will provide ongoing mentorship, facilitate peer learning exchanges, and support youth trainers through office hours and online platforms.
- Language Development: Trainers will assist in sourcing local language examples for the training handbook and in proofreading materials.
Responsibilities
- Promote Youth Trainer Applications: Actively share the call for youth trainer applications through networks, WhatsApp groups, and partner organizations to recruit motivated participants.
- Selection Process: Participate in the selection process and submit a list of recommended candidates.
- Mentorship and Engagement: Offer continuous engagement through office hours, WhatsApp groups, and other online platforms to support the L2D-India community.
- Training Facilitation: Facilitate both online training sessions and in-person ToT sessions.
- Peer Learning Exchanges: Co-lead four in-person peer learning exchanges to support youth participants in reflecting on their community training experiences and online campaigns.
- Adaptability: Adapt to varying tasks based on district-specific requirements and individual expertise.
Eligibility
1. Connection with Youth Networks/Youth Organizations
- Preference for candidates with strong ties to youth organizations and networks, especially those working with youth populations.
2. Experience in Youth Training (3+ Years)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with youth using interactive, learner-centered methods.
- Experience in media literacy, journalism, fact-checking, or related fields is preferred.
- Previous work with youth aged 18-25, particularly marginalized or at-risk groups, is a strong asset.
3. Education and Relevant Background
- A university degree in journalism, communications, education, political science, sociology, psychology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
4. Adaptability, Open-mindedness, and Mission Commitment
- Candidates should demonstrate curiosity, flexibility, open-mindedness, and a strong commitment to the L2D-India II mission.
5. Language Skills
- Fluent in English and Hindi.
- Proficiency in additional regional languages like Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, or Bengali is preferred.
6. Knowledge of Media Literacy and Digital Tools
- Familiarity with digital tools such as social media platforms, reverse image search, and geolocation is preferred.
- Experience with learning management systems is a plus.
7. Problem-Solving and Moderation Skills
- Strong problem-solving skills are essential.
- Experience in moderating discussions, focus groups, or public dialogues, especially with youth audiences.
Commitment Period
Selected trainers must be able to commit to the engagement from December 2024 to September 2025. The estimated engagement period is 15 days, but it may vary based on district-specific needs and project requirements.
