Program Overview
The DBT-BIRAC Amrit Team Grants is a new initiative aligned with the Hon'ble Prime Minister’s “Jai Anusandhan” call, aiming to support innovative and collaborative research in biotechnology. This initiative addresses national needs while positioning India as a global leader in Biotechnology.
The program encourages ambitious, high-risk, milestone-driven research involving interdisciplinary collaboration among academia, clinical institutions, and start-ups. The emphasis is on knowledge-based discoveries that tackle complex problems beyond the capacity of single labs. This initiative promotes spinouts, venture creation, and projects that impact the bioeconomy and address societal needs.
Key Focus Areas
- Healthcare, Agriculture, Plant, Animal Biotechnology, and Biomanufacturing: Proposals are welcome across all domains of biotechnology.
- Targeting Knowledge Bottlenecks: Address critical gaps in biotechnology knowledge.
- Breaking Research Silos: Foster multi-organizational collaborations involving industry and start-ups.
- Societal Engagement: Generate solutions for current societal challenges and anticipate future needs.

Funding Information
- Maximum Budget: Up to ₹10 Crore for 2 years, extendable to 5 years based on project performance.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible organizations should be:
- Public Research or Educational Institutes/Universities, Private Research or Educational Institutes/Universities, Societies, Trusts, NGOs, Foundations, Voluntary Organizations, or Start-ups registered in India.
- Legal Entities as per Indian law, with no blacklisting or recent contract termination with BIRAC in the past five years.
- Experienced in Research: Private entities (Universities, NGOs, etc.) should have at least 3 years of experience in socio-economic/scientific research, teaching, training, or extension activities.
