Objective Girl Effect seeks a Local Implementing Partner to establish and manage two community-based ‘learning labs’ in Mumbai and Delhi. These labs will gather regular insights from girls (9-24 years) and parents of girls (9-14 years) on Girl Effect's content, products, and programs.

Who We Are Girl Effect is an international non-profit creating media for adolescent girls in Africa and Asia to help them make informed choices about their health, education, and relationships. We aim to empower girls, reaching 50 million and counting, to control their lives, health, learning, and livelihoods.

Our Approach Using a branded media approach, we deliver behavioral change programs to support girls during critical life moments. Our brands, such as Chhaa Jaa in India, Tujibebe in Tanzania, and Yegna in Ethiopia, exist across multiple channels including digital, TV, radio, print, and on-ground.

Girl Effect in India Launched in 2019, Chhaa Jaa helps girls in India build confidence to make life-changing decisions. It includes social and behavior change content on social media, the Bol Behen chatbot, the Chhaa Jaa website, and the Bak Bak Gang Facebook group.

Project Context India has 254 million adolescents needing nutrition, education, and guidance. Integrated health approaches, including sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, menstrual hygiene, and HPV vaccination, are crucial for adolescent girls and young women.

Integrated Health Programme Targeting girls aged 9-14 and their parents, this program will build awareness about menstrual health, nutrition, and the HPV vaccine. The program will be delivered both online and on-ground in selected states.

Bol Behen 2.0 This initiative will expand the Bol Behen chatbot and refresh the Chhaa Jaa website to reach more girls with critical sexual, reproductive, and mental wellbeing information.

Scope of Work Objective: Partner with a local organization in India to establish and manage two learning labs in Mumbai and Delhi for gathering insights from primary and secondary audiences.

Local Partner Responsibilities:

  1. Learning Lab Design and Set Up

    • Identify diverse communities in Mumbai and Delhi
    • Establish community offices and hire coordinators
    • Engage with community leaders and stakeholders
    • Organize events and provide monthly feedback
  2. Co-creation, Testing, and Research Management

    • Identify target audiences for co-creation and testing
    • Support venue setup and participant preparation
  3. Showcases

    • Host showcase meetings and events for donors and partners
  4. Participant Safeguarding, Communication, and Administrative Matters

    • Manage administrative and safeguarding matters within the community

Deliverables:

  • Set up 2 physical learning labs in Mumbai and Delhi
  • Conduct regular community engagement and provide reports
  • Design and deliver training programs
  • Conduct evaluations and compile regular reports
  • Arrange logistics for research participants
  • Conduct digital focus group discussions
  • Organize co-creation and testing exercises
  • Organize showcases for potential donors and partners

Who You Are

  • Essential Competencies:

    • Understanding of Child Protection, Safeguarding, and ethical issues in research
    • Existing community relationships and ability to engage with the community
    • Experience working with adolescent girls and understanding gender dynamics
    • Experience in conducting research and recruiting respondents
  • Other Competencies:

    • Fieldwork supervision experience
    • Timely reporting and response capabilities
    • Good technology infrastructure and digital skills

Safeguarding, Child Protection, and Ethical Consideration

  • Maintain confidentiality and obtain informed consent from participants
  • Follow ethical research considerations and Girl Effect’s safeguarding procedures

Tentative Project Timeline

  • Onboarding Local Partner: August 2024
  • Set up Learning Labs: November 2024
  • Co-creation and Testing: December 2024 - July 2025
