Gender Bender 2024 Call for Applications

What is Gender Bender:

• Annual festival in Bangalore, India.
• Showcases new works of art that re-examine and re-imagine the spectrum of gender.
• Platform for important conversations about gender and its implications, including intersectionality.
• Features works by grantees, curated performances, panel discussions, exhibitions, and workshops.

Who can apply:

• Individuals and collectives in the arts creating new and original work around the theme of gender.
• Artistic contributions in any form of expression across different media are welcome.
• Proposed projects must be new and not previously showcased or performed.
• Former Gender Bender grantees are not eligible.
• Applications from marginalized and underserved communities are encouraged.

How to apply:

1. Fill in the Gender Bender 2024 Application Form.
2. Include relevant samples of previous work (any three) and supporting material:
   • Maximum of five photographs of previous work.
   • Optional: Video link of previous work.
3. Upload all material to your Google Drive and share an editable link in the form. Title the shared folder as “Your Name - Application”.
4. If English is not your preferred language, send an application in your language or write to explore other options.

Deadline: August 31, 2024

Jury:

• Independent panel of eminent individuals from various fields.
• Jury members' names disclosed after the selection process.
• Selection announcement: October 5, 2024.

Festival Dates:

• November 27-30, 2024
• Location: Bangalore

Grant Details:

• Maximum grant amount: INR 75,000 towards the creation of the work.
• Travel and accommodation costs stipulated.
• Selected projects will be presented in Bangalore.

• Gender Bender is conceived, conceptualized, and curated by Sandbox Collective.
• Joint project of Sandbox Collective and the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore.
