Overview

Charkha Development Communication Network is celebrating its 30th anniversary by recognizing young grassroots leaders who are transforming their communities. Inspired by the vision of Sanjoy Ghose, these awards aim to honor young women, queer, trans, non-binary, and gender minorities working in rural and urban informal settlements. These leaders are challenging patriarchal norms and creating positive change using development communication tools.

Awards:

• 3 Awards will be presented.
• Each award includes a citation and a cash prize of INR 25,000.

Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply?

• Young women, queer, trans, non-binary, and other gender minorities aged 18-35.
• Residents of rural areas, under a Gram Panchayat.
• Those leading initiatives in urban informal settlements.
• Must be associated with a grassroots not-for-profit organization (as an employee, volunteer, or adolescent leader).
• Must have 2 years of experience in social and economic development in their communities.
• No specific education qualifications required.

Who Cannot Apply?

• People employed or associated with political, religious, government, or media organizations.
• People in senior management or leadership positions.
• Employees of Charkha.

Application Requirements

What to Share:

1. Your Journey:
   • How did you start in social work? What challenges did you face? (400 words)
   • What were your early years like? How has the situation changed? (400 words)
   • What issues have you worked on? What have been your successes and failures? (400 words)
   • Any other aspect of your journey (100 words).
   • What changes are needed in NGOs to support grassroots leaders? (200 words)

What to Send:

• Experience letter from your organization.
• Biodata with name, contact details, and professional information (name, phone number, email ID, residential address, office details, experience).

How to Apply

Option 1: Written application via Email

• Write your story in Hindi, English, or Urdu.
• Send required documents as PDFs to awards@charkha.org.
• Use "Leadership Awards 2024" as the subject line.

Option 2: Written application via Google Form

• Submit via this Google Form.

Option 3: Video via Google Drive

• Create a 3-5 minute video telling your story.
• Upload the video, biodata, and experience letter to Google Drive and share the link with awards@charkha.org.
